Terms of Service
Last updated: 12 June 2026
1. About these terms
These terms ("Terms") form a contract between you and Clefora ("we", "us", "our") covering your use of the Clefora hub at hub.clefora.app, the Clefora mobile applications for iOS and Android, and this marketing website (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. What Clefora is
Clefora is a software tool that helps music teachers communicate with parents and students, log lessons, manage repertoire and practice goals, schedule sessions, and issue invoices. We are not a party to the teaching relationship between teacher and parent. We provide tools; the teacher provides the teaching.
3. Accounts and eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to create an account as a teacher or parent.
- Student accounts may be used by minors only if a parent or guardian has set up the relationship in the app and consented on the child's behalf. For children whose recorded date of birth shows they are under 13, the app additionally requires the recorded parental consent that Clefora captures at invite time — the child's account is not activated until that consent is in place.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for all activity under your account.
- Keep your sign-in credentials safe. Notify us promptly at support@clefora.app if you suspect unauthorised access.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to send unlawful, harassing, abusive, or misleading content.
- Upload material that infringes copyright or other third-party rights.
- Attempt to circumvent technical or access controls, scrape or reverse-engineer the Service, or use it to develop a competing product.
- Use the Service to process card payments outside the Stripe Connect integration we provide.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these rules.
5. Subscriptions and pricing
- Some features require a paid subscription (currently "Standard" and "Premium" tiers). Pricing is shown on our pricing page.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You may cancel at any time from your account settings; the subscription will continue to the end of the current billing period.
- We may change subscription pricing with at least 30 days' notice. Price changes take effect at your next renewal.
- Refunds are at our discretion outside the rights granted by your local consumer-protection law.
6. Payments through Stripe Connect
- Teachers may use Stripe Connect to receive payments from parents through invoices issued in Clefora. Stripe is the regulated payment institution; Clefora is a platform.
- Stripe's own terms apply to the teacher's Stripe account. Teachers are responsible for accurate VAT / tax handling on their own invoices.
- Clefora deducts a small platform fee from each successful payment, disclosed at the point of invoice creation.
- Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach Clefora's servers.
7. Your content and data
- You retain ownership of the content you create in Clefora — lesson notes, practice goals, messages, repertoire entries, and so on.
- You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, and process that content for the purpose of providing the Service to you and the people you authorise (e.g. a parent receiving a digest from a teacher).
- Teachers control which information is visible to parents and students. Private teacher notes are not shared.
- Parents may request export or deletion of their child's data at any time; teachers may export their own teaching records on request.
8. Our intellectual property
The Clefora name, logo, software, designs, and documentation are owned by us or our licensors. These Terms do not transfer any of our intellectual-property rights to you.
9. Examination boards and third-party copyrighted material
Clefora helps teachers track student progress toward music examinations offered by third-party examination boards, including (but not limited to) ABRSM, Trinity College London, RSL Awards / Rockschool, the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), the London College of Music (LCM), Music Teachers' Board (MTB), and the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB). The following terms govern that use:
- No reproduction of copyrighted content. Clefora does not reproduce, host, store, distribute, or display any examination-board syllabus document, official repertoire list, exam paper, sheet music, recording, or other content in which an examination board (or any other third party) holds copyright. Where Clefora's interface refers to grade structures or exam-board names, it does so using factual descriptors only — for example a grade name or number — written in our own words.
- User-contributed associations. Where pieces of repertoire are tagged in Clefora as appearing in a particular exam-board grade, those associations are factual annotations entered by teachers in the course of their own use. They are not a copy of any examination board's curated repertoire list and we do not pre-populate exam-board lists into the platform.
- No affiliation or endorsement. Examination-board names, grade structures, logos, and trademarks (including but not limited to "ABRSM", "Trinity College London", "RSL", "Rockschool", "Royal Conservatory of Music", "LCM", "MTB", and "AMEB") are the property of their respective owners. Their inclusion in Clefora's interface is descriptive and does not imply any affiliation with, endorsement by, sponsorship from, or licence granted by any examination board, unless we have stated otherwise in writing.
- Teacher responsibility. Teachers and other users are responsible for ensuring that their own use of examination-board materials — for example displaying sheet music in a lesson, sharing exam recordings, or uploading scanned pages — complies with the relevant board's copyright, trademark, and licensing terms. Clefora is not a licensee of any examination board and cannot grant rights in their material.
- No upload of infringing content. You must not upload to Clefora any content that infringes the copyright, trademark, or other rights of an examination board or any other third party. This includes scans of syllabuses or exam papers, copies of sheet music, and recordings of exam-board performances.
- Notice and takedown. If you believe content on Clefora infringes your rights or rights you represent, please contact legal@clefora.app with details of the work, its location on the Service, and the basis of the claim. We will investigate promptly and remove or disable access to material that, on review, we judge to be infringing.
10. Community repertoire database and anonymous metadata sharing
Clefora maintains a shared repertoire database that helps teachers discover pieces suitable for their students, identify cross-board and cross-instrument associations, and benefit from the collective knowledge of the teaching community. Where you tag, rate, or describe a piece in Clefora, those contributions may be shared anonymously with other teachers using the Service, on the terms set out below.
What is shared anonymously with the community
- Piece-level metadata you enter or correct: title, composer, instrument, key, time signature, approximate length, public-domain status.
- Factual associations you contribute between pieces and exam-board grades (for example, "this piece appears in ABRSM Grade 4 List A").
- Difficulty ratings and pedagogical tags (such as "good for legato", "introduces syncopation"), aggregated across contributors.
- Optional pedagogical notes you choose to contribute to the community database. These are clearly marked as community-shared at the point of entry, separate from your private lesson notes.
What is never shared with the community
- Private lesson notes you record for your own reference.
- Student names, ages, contact details, progress data, or any information identifying which student has played a particular piece.
- Parent contact details, billing data, or any other personal information about people in your studio.
- Your scheduling, pricing, or commercial information.
- Any data entered into a field marked private to you or your studio.
How anonymisation works
- Contributions appear to other teachers as community-sourced. We do not identify, per individual tag or rating, which teacher made it, unless you separately opt in to a public contributor profile.
- We may show aggregate signals — for example "tagged by 12 teachers as ABRSM Grade 4" — to convey confidence without identifying individuals.
- Internally, we record contributor identity for moderation, abuse prevention, and (where relevant) acknowledgement of contributions back to you. These internal records are not exposed to other users.
- Aggregated, anonymised statistics that have been combined with contributions from other teachers may not be reversible to a single contributor; once aggregated, individual withdrawal of those derived statistics may not be technically possible.
Licence you grant by contributing
By contributing repertoire metadata, exam-board associations, ratings, tags, or pedagogical notes to the community database, you grant Clefora a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sub-licensable licence to host, display, reproduce, distribute, aggregate, and adapt those contributions within the Clefora Service for the purposes described in this section. You retain ownership of original creative content you write (such as your own pedagogical notes), subject to that licence. Bare facts (such as "this piece appears in this grade") are not subject to copyright in any event.
Your control
- You can request that specific contributions be removed at any time by emailing support@clefora.app. We will remove the attributed contribution within a reasonable period.
- Where future product settings allow it, you may opt out of contributing to the community database entirely while still using Clefora's private features. We will document the prevailing setting in the Service.
- The accuracy of community-contributed data is not guaranteed; it is a discovery aid and not a substitute for an official exam-board syllabus or published reference work.
11. Service availability and changes
We aim to keep the Service available and reliable but we do not promise uninterrupted operation. We may release updates, change features, or temporarily suspend the Service for maintenance. We will give reasonable notice of material changes that adversely affect paying users.
12. Termination
- You may close your account at any time from the settings page. We will delete account data within 30 days, subject to records we are legally required to retain.
- We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if continued service would cause us legal or commercial harm, or if your account has been inactive for an extended period.
13. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is". We do not warrant that it will be error-free, secure against every threat, or fit for any particular purpose beyond what is described in our marketing pages.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amounts you paid us in the twelve months immediately before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, loss of profits, loss of data beyond what reasonable backup practice would prevent, or losses arising from a teaching relationship between users.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (for example liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence).
14. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what personal data we collect and how we use it.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from them, except that consumers resident in another EU country may bring proceedings in their local courts where local law requires.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email or in-app message at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
